A Long-Term Marketing Strategy Provides Organizational Sustainability and Growth

A permanent long-term marketing strategy is important for success and requires a plan. The plan must be executed consistently. It takes much more than just predicting long-term success if you truly want it. Any plan should be written and followed closely. Plans not written, or not performed as directed, are not effective. If you don’t have a concrete plan that is executed consistently, you are likely losing business and increasing the chances that your competitors will increase their market share. When the plan is specific and measurable, it is much more likely to succeed. Measuring the results of any plan is also critical to afford the opportunity to makes changes in the plan as needed.

Creating a revenue development plan is not a one-size-fits-all process. The process should create and maintain long-term growth.  Understand the strengths you offer so that you can set yourself apart from the competition. Identify and be able to convey what makes you stand out, and that you are trustworthy and reliable. Convey to prospects why they should work with you and be prepared to answer concerns and questions about your organization and what you offer.

A marketing plan takes some time and a lot of thought to develop. There are several things to consider when creating the plan:

  • Your products and services strengths and weaknesses.
  • The price and quality of what you offer and how they relate to each other.
  • Competitors offerings and why your offerings would be a better choice.
  • The definiteness of the strategic plan itself, including specific actions taken at specific times.
  • Consistent measurement of outcomes followed by changes in the plan based on results.

In summary, create a written marketing plan that is followed closely and continuously. If there is no written marketing plan, or if the plan is not executed regularly and consistently, marketing will be randomly and inadequately performed, which most assuredly will render any efforts made ineffective. In addition, a sales plan works best when its performance is frequently reviewed and revised.

If you think marketing is expensive, think what it’s costing you when you don’t.

Fact: People want what you offer but they don’t contact you. Why? They don’t know you.

People are looking for what you offer. They don’t know you and don’t know you are out there. You don’t know they are looking for what you offer. An opportunity is lost. Lost opportunities occur over and over again without any notice. Opportunities come and go on a regular basis.

People contact others they can easily find. Businesses and other organizations invest in marketing so that people can easily find them. Getting your contact info in front of potential consumers is crucial for growth and prosperity of your organization.

What is it costing you for every customer and sale you don’t get? Most businesspersons are aware of apparent operating costs such as rent, wages, utilities, materials, supplies and taxes.  There is an equal, and other important cost to consider, lost opportunity cost. Lost opportunity costs are hard (if not impossible) to measure but they are certainly real.

The solution. There are many marketing strategies that will mitigate and minimize these lost opportunity costs, whether you are marketing to businesses or consumers. The opportunity cost must correlate to reasonable and available financial resources and should increase as the marketing strategies work to increase revenues and income.

Here are some outcomes of any effective marketing strategy:

  • Increase your visibility, generally.
  • Generate increased traffic to your website and/or business location.
  • Provide increased visibility through social media platforms.
  • Create awareness that you and your business are an expert in what you offer.
  • Generate trustworthiness and credibility with your current customers and prospects.
  • Allow assessment of your value with no strings attached.
  • Increase awareness and credibility of you, your brand and your products and services.

Wishing you the best of success,

Larry

Increase Organizational Awareness with Promotional Products

Promotional products are items branded with an organization’s name, contact information, logo, slogan and other information, and are usually given away free to promote an organization, event or brand. These products help to increase overall organizational visibility and awareness. They are also given away at trade shows, conferences, and during sales calls. These products include t-shirts, caps, water bottles, key-chains, pens, and coffee mugs. Since promotional giveaways have your contact information on them, they work like a business card that consumers use regularly.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Businesses usually expend significant time and resources attempting to get prospects to purchase their products or use their services. In large part, as a result of these efforts, the time comes when the prospect decides to utilize the products or services the business has been touting. If the prospect does not remember, and is unable to find, the name or contact information of the business, they don’t contact the business. The prospect buys elsewhere. It is nearly impossible to reach out to prospects at the precise time they need what you offer. Promotional products remind potential customers about you when you are not there, and they provide a way for the customer to get in touch with you when they need what you offer.

Valuable Advertising Space

Most people work five or more days a week in a specific location. When a prospect or customer is using your branded gift there, you have access to the most valuable advertising space possible, right where they are! A well selected promotional gift becomes a permanent billboard right where they spend their work time. Getting access to that kind of space and time is priceless!

Get Referrals

Good promotional products are normally highly visible, handy products or clothing that people like and use. They get them free, so they usually don’t hesitate to take them (most people like gifts). Since these items are generally placed or worn where others see them, they create brand recognition and referrals. These products may become a point of discussion between two consumers. For example, consumers might wear your gift of a t-shirt or use your coffee cup or travel mug in plain sight. Such giveaways are an excellent way for increasing your business exposure on a daily basis.

Yes, We Have That

Promotional products are also used to alert potential customers or clients to a product or service you offer. These promotional products convey to others, that a regular, new or special product or service is available, or that a special discount exists. As organizations develop and implement new products and services promotional products are a great way to get the word out.

The Cost of Lost Opportunities

You never know the opportunities you miss. You don’t know what you don’t know.

People Can’t Find You

What is it costing you for every customer and sale you don’t get? People are looking for what you offer. They don’t know you and you don’t know them. They are unable to connect with you because they don’t know you are out there. Your opportunity to make a sale is lost. This situation occurs again and again. More and more opportunities come and go and you never know. Consumers buy what they want from businesses they can easily find. Businesses invest in marketing so that people can easily find them.

Nothing for Nothing

The best things in life can sometimes be free, but that’s not true when it comes to growing your business and finding new customers. You can only get so much for free, and free is typically not enough to make any significant increase in your presence in the marketplace. If you don’t have a strong presence where people are looking for you, the internet, you have very little chance of attracting new customers. Too many other organizations are out there spending on marketing and advertising, so that people find them without difficulty.

No Risk, No Reward

The true business adage is “no risk, no reward”. Businesses risk capital to make profit. The more you risk the greater chances for reward. Although marketing doesn’t offer instant and guaranteed results, generally it pays dividends that are far greater than the outlay. Businesses spend money on marketing because that’s what it takes to grow. I’m sure you’ve heard the expression, “you have to spend money to make money”, the expression is quite true! While there are free marketing strategies, you won’t get very far on free. Be smart when you make the decision to invest in marketing. Start with small investments to get your marketing up and running and then reinvest more as business increases. You’ll be on your way to increased income and greater success!

Update Your Website Frequently

“There is nothing permanent except change”. Heraclitus

So many people are so busy with the day-today operations of their business or nonprofit organization that they forget to check on the status of their website and what others are seeing when they visit the site. Don’t leave your website unchecked and outdated. Out of site out of mind is probably hurting your organization. The way you maintain your online presence gives the public an impression of how you run your business.

Make a Great First Impression

You want to make a great first impression and keeping your website up to date is part of that. Your website is likely the first thing people looking for what you offer see. if the website is outdated or missing links the prospect will likely quickly lose interest and move on to check out websites of others. A site that is outdated does not have a fresh look, is uninteresting, shows poorly and is doing the owner a disservice. It can disinterest prospects quickly, even before the viewer finds out what you offer, and are about. Keeping your website looking fresh is very important in attracting new prospects and keeping current customers and clients.

Keep Your Content Up to Date

Updated content and pictures will give your website a current fresh look. It is much more likely to cause your prospects to spend time reviewing your site, ultimately driving more traffic to it and your organization. Set a schedule to remind yourself that it is time to review and update the site or hire a pro to do that for you. Technology and trends are always changing, and professionals are up to date on the latest nuances and features of websites.

Start a Blog

Blogging is a great way to expose your website to new traffic, promote search engine optimization (SEO) and give you the opportunity to show prospects that you and your organization have expertise in the products or services you offer. Blogging will also force you to see and review the website on a regular basis. Blogging shows people who are searching for solutions you offer, that you have the solutions they seek, and that increases the chances that they will buy from you or utilize the services you provide.  Blogging in general is a great way to increase visits to your site. Blogs can be done on any basis. A monthly blog would be the great, but when it comes to blogs, the more times the merrier and something is better than nothing! Professionals can also create great blogs if you don’t have the time or inclination to do it yourself.

Keep Keywords Updated

Keeping the keywords current and using the right keywords in your website is essential.  The right keywords help drive traffic to the website. It is just as important to keep the keywords on your website current as it is the content. Pages on your site need keywords that represent the products or services you offer. The keywords you use should represent and convey the same image and message, about what you offer, to prospects who are searching online. Location keywords describe the proximity of your location and the area(s) you serve. Things change, and it is important to keep both the website pages and the related keywords current so that your location, contact information and service area are correct and up to date.

Bottom Line

If you don’t regularly update your content, pictures and keywords, your website will gradually get less and less useful and effective. Make a point to come up with a plan to regularly update the website . Remember the words of Ben Franklin, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” Failure generally creeps up on us, we certainly don’t plan it. Review your website regularly, keep your web pages and keywords up to date, seriously consider starting a blog, and plan to succeed!

Strategies Designed For Success

CALHOUN PRESS, INC. knows that most businesses are looking to increase sales and income yet many smaller businesses are concerned that marketing can be a scary risky proposition. In reality, marketing is the lifeblood of most     successful and growing businesses, assuming it is done correctly.

Marketing Provides Measurable Results

I know at least half of my advertising budget works; I just don’t know which half.” Henry Ford.

You can’t just start a marketing program and set it on autopilot and hope for the best. Marketing strategies, while hopefully well thought out, need to be managed and tended. One would not start a garden and then wait until the end of the growing season to see how things went. In the same way, marketing is an ongoing process that needs regular and constant review to check for results and make appropriate changes. Several methods are available to businesses to confirm the effectiveness of their marketing and advertising methods. In addition, a measured start and adjusted growth of marketing and advertising is essential to avoid wasting time and money.

Three Low or No Cost Marketing Strategies

“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.” Henry Ford

Many cash-strapped businesses diminish the high value that investing in marketing brings. That’s right, investing! The money and time spent on marketing will normally repay itself many times over. Marketing is a big part of running any successful business.

Too many businesses are short sided and invest little or nothing in publicizing themselves to increase sales and income. Without marketing the business normally continues the vicious cycle of low sales and low income, which leaves little or nothing for marketing and on and on. Many times, the business struggles to survive. This view is a big mistake, because marketing can actually provide the cash to pay for further ongoing advertising and other promotional expenses that grow a business.

For those businesses with little or no funds to start marketing here are three ideas:

Ask for referrals. Create an incentive that lets your customers do the marketing for you. Offer a small finders-fee, such as a gift card, to any current customer who brings a new customer to you. This lets current customers know that you are currently seeking new customers and are therefore much more likely to mention and recommend your business to people they know. It has been found that people are four times more likely to deal with, or buy from, a business or organization, when it comes from a recommendation and referral from someone they know.

Get involved with local groups, clubs and chambers of commerce. Don’t underestimate the power of working and meeting in public settings and social media groups. You will likely come across folks with questions that you can answer and thereby show your expertise. Try to participate or sponsor a local event, such as an open house or offer some free service, to promote your business. The more involved you are with your local community and online social media groups, the more likely you are to acquire new customers. Typically, it doesn’t cost anything to become a member of online communities, so you can reap the benefits with nothing more than a few hours of your time.

Write press releases, news articles and blogs. Think of newsworthy things you can report. Many times, if you have something noteworthy to report, such as a significant change in your industry or other considerable news, media will report it for you. Press releases are a free or inexpensive way to get your business or organization mentioned in key media, thereby also enabling the posting of a link to your website or the listing of your contact information, potentially giving rise to some new connections and patrons. By doing the work yourself, media releases can be another free marketing tool.

The bottom line? If you are struggling financially and still want to start working on finding new customers, look for imaginative ways to get the word out that you exist and are seeking new customers. The ideas here are just a few of the many free or low cost ways to get started growing your business!

Why Should My Organization Have a Website?

Why should my business have a website?

It’s a fact – most people looking for goods or services these days look on the web. In today’s fast paced world people simply need to enter a few keystrokes on their computer, tablet or smart phone to find what they want – and thats what they do.

Most small businesses owners would like a great website but can’t spend a small fortune and don’t know enough about website design to build a website themselves.

Calhoun Press, Inc. will design a great website that will help to ensure that people searching the web for your services get a great first impression about you and get the information they need to select you while they’re shopping around. Only designers that are competent and creative will create your site. We avoid common website design mistakes to ensure that you and your designer work together for a great result we can all be proud of.

Building a website for a business is a big task. More than any other advertising or marketing you do, your website conveys your primary image and provides information to those looking for the things that you offer.

A simple, clean website is also very effective. You want to include enough information to keep your prospects attention but not so much that they become overwhelmed. You want to do everything you can to keep your potential client or customer at the website until they contact you.

No Success Until You Start

You Don’t Have To Be Great To Start, But You Have To Start To Be Great, Zig Ziglar

The effort and determination you take provides your road to success and achievement. Inspiration and determination are good but it’s the implementation and action that create success. No one ever prospered by just thinking about an idea. Consistent action is required!

Zig Ziglar’s words prove true. Most people have ideas and dreams yet never get started because they are waiting for something, the right, day, the right time, a certain amount of cash, and so on. Most misjudge and believe that they will be successful when they are ready, when they have a certain amount of cash/capital and so on and so forth. Life is fleeting. There is no time like NOW to get started.

Do yourself a favor. Get started on your dream today, not tomorrow. Even small amounts of effort every day will eventually lead to success.

Like anything in life, you don’t get credit for trying until you’ve taken some real shots at your goal. You may not succeed the first time you take a shot, but until you start taking real measurable shots (shots that count) you’re not really giving it an actual try. it’s getting started taking some shots that matter. As Benjamin Franklin aptly stated, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained!!!”
